Right after I published my last newsletter, I went on a streak of reading books in a single day. It was like I put it out into the universe and the universe delivered by way of skip-the-line loans on Libby. Three of these books were by beloved authors and I expected to read them quickly, but one came out of nowhere and surprised me.
It’s a Love Story by Annabel Monaghan
I look forward to Annabel’s books every year and this one was fun. (Though not her best, start with Nora Goes Off Script and make your way to Summer Romance if you’re new here.) A former child star, a male lead with a big, loud family. It was good! And inspired by Jenette McCurdy’s I’m Glad My Mom Died?
One Golden Summer by Carley Fortune
I think this was my favorite Carley Fortune book yet! Technically a companion to Every Summer After, you don’t need to have read that one to jump right in.
A cocky male lead. A sweet grandmother relationship. A summer lake story. I stayed up two hours past my bedtime just to finish this one. It ruined the whole next day.
The Love Haters by Katherine Center
If you haven’t read Katherine Center before, start with The Bodyguard, but make your way here eventually for a good time in Florida with a group of fabulous retired women, a lovable Great Dane, and a male lead who once rescued Jennifer Aniston’s dog. You read that right.
The Death of Us by Abigail Dean
The book that surprised me! I picked this one up while waiting at my OBGYN’s office and put it down later that night, finished. This is the story of Edward and Isabel, who were the victims of home invasion by a serial killer. The book takes us through their beginnings as a couple, how this trauma shaped them, and where they are years later during the trial. A love story, a thriller, a page-turner, most definitely. Stephen King blurbed it!
As always, if you’re looking to purchase any of these books, you can check them out from Bookshop.org HERE.

Loved Golden Summer, she is a go to for me too!
I’m reading one golden summer right now and it has the perfect summer vibes!
