A few housekeeping items:
I am trying to actually use my Jillian Librarian Instagram account! I’ve posted a couple of quick reviews, if you’d like to see. My plan is for this to be immediate reactions to books I love.
I’m going to include a link to purchase the books I share in this newsletter at Bookshop.org, if you are interested. Bookshop allows you to buy books from independent bookstores. Full disclosure, if you do purchase a book, I get a small percentage which I plan to use to buy books for my middle school library.
Now. On to the good stuff.
I have a group text titled “Important Romance Things.” It is a spin-off of the very active, very important “Important Things” text. In Important Romance things, we share memes and tweets.
We also share urgent updates on Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal and The Summer I Turned Pretty (Team Jeremiah).
But mostly, we share book recommendations. Here are a few books I’ve shared in the group text lately:
Summer Romance by Annabel Monaghan
I started this book on a girls weekend and it took everything in me to dutifully sing the Elphaba role in Defying Gravity on the drive home and not finish this book. THAT is how much I was invested.
Nora Goes off Script, by the same author, is one of my favorite romances ever, and while it’s tough to beat Brad Pitt falling in love with you and The Oscars (the plot of Nora), somehow this book is right up there. Somehow I liked Scooter even better than Brad Pitt?
Canadian Boyfriend by Jenny Holiday
OK, am I the last person on earth to know that a Canadian Boyfriend is a term people use for a fake boyfriend? I’d never heard of this. Is this because I’ve lived far away from Canada? Did you know?
Whatever the case, this hockey romance follows a woman who makes up a Canadian Boyfriend based on a guy she met at the mall in high school…and years later runs into him. He’s a professional hockey player now. Double eye emoji.
Fangirl Down by Tessa Bailey
Who knew I cared about any other golfer and caddy?
Fangirl Down follows a pro golfer who has lost his edge and his #1 fan. She becomes his caddy. I am eagerly awaiting the next in the series.
The Paradise Problem by Christina Lauren
Succession set during a wedding on a private island, plus a fake marriage for housing in LA? Sign me up.
The Second Chance Year by Melissa Wiesner
I am obsessed with stories where you get to redo your past and am fully prepared to relive any single year in my life. I have lists.
In The Second Chance Year, Sadie gets to redo a year of her life and in the process realizes who she’s always been meant to be with.
In a New York Minute by Kate Spencer
A couple goes viral for their meet cute on the subway. Fate keeps bringing them together.
If you’re interested in purchasing any of these books, here’s the Bookshop link. At Bookshop, you get to choose which independent bookstore you’d like to order from. I order from The Brewster Bookstore :)
PS: Have you read any great romance books lately?
PPS: What group texts do you have? I also have threads devoted to WaterKate and Taylor and Travis.
